Athar Haseebullah@atharhaseebullah8642 joins Jeff Fargo to talk about one of the strangest evolutions in American politics: tariffs. Back in the 90s, NAFTA was the big dividing line. Republicans were the free trade champions while Green Party progressives and some Democrats were loudly anti-NAFTA. Tariffs were considered untouchable by conservatives.
Fast forward to today, and the roles have flipped. Athar points out how Trump’s movement embraces tariffs as part of a nationalist platform, while Jeff recalls old clips of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi holding signs praising tariffs. Meanwhile, past footage shows Reagan and Bush calling out protectionism. The trade debate has turned upside down in just a couple decades.
