Something that should not even be a debate. If there is a sex offender working in a martial arts studio, the public should know. Hiding it protects the wrong people.
I hear arguments like background checks do not stop everything, so we should not do them at all. That logic makes no sense. You do not avoid it because it is imperfect. You use it because it reduces risk.
Right now, there is no requirement to run background checks to open or work in a martial arts gym in the United States. Anyone can walk in, claim authority, and train kids. That is a real problem.
