Who walks into the emergency room alone?
Sun City Anthem is a 7,144-home retirement community minutes from the hospital. Some patients arriving from it have lost a spouse, lost their closest friends, and have no children nearby. They arrive terrified, and not only of the diagnosis. They are wondering whether they have seen their house for the last time.
What does a hospital stay cost a patient beyond the bill?
The clothes go. Someone else decides when visitors come. Someone else decides when you eat. Every rule has a good reason behind it, and every rule takes a piece of a person's independence. Chris trains his staff to hand back as much of it as they can.
