What should a hospital do when an employee catches a close call? In this clip from my Fargo Talks conversation, Chris Loftus, CEO of West Henderson Hospital in Henderson, Nevada, explains the first thing his leadership team talks about every morning in the safety huddle.
He walks through the Lifesaver program the hospital's director of risk created, how a team member who reports a close call gets recognized in front of every leader in the hospital, and why he says healthcare can't sweep its fixes under the rug.
In our full conversation, Chris covers how West Henderson Hospital builds its culture around quality and safety.
What is the Lifesaver program at West Henderson Hospital?
As Chris Loftus describes it, a team member who reports an issue or a close call is brought to the morning safety huddle, recognized in front of the hospital's leaders for the good catch and given a certificate signed by leadership that says Lifesaver. The team also talks through what it learned and how to keep it from happening again.
