When Cliff Maloney compared what the left and the right spent after one race, almost everything matched. Television, radio, digital ads, texting, mailers. In this clip from my Fargo Talks conversation, Cliff Maloney, CEO of Citizens Alliance, explains the one gap he found and why it became his aha moment.
Then he lays out the model he wanted to build on the right, and why volunteers alone weren't it. The views in this clip are Cliff's.
In our full conversation, Cliff walks through how Citizens Alliance runs paid door-knocking programs in Pennsylvania, Arizona, New Hampshire and Nevada.
What spending gap did Cliff Maloney find between the left and the right?
Cliff Maloney of Citizens Alliance says that when he compared left and right spending, everything had parity, from television and radio to digital ads, texting and mailers, except knocking doors. The left was paying people to knock doors. Starting in 2018, he set out to build that on the right, modeled on Obama's community organizing approach: paid door knockers working six days a week with one objective, going door to door.
