Chris Loftus, CEO of West Henderson Hospital in Henderson, Nevada, explains why the hospital created a dedicated Serenity Suite for employees.
The Serenity Suite at West Henderson Hospital includes three high-end massage chairs and gives nurses, physicians, clinical teams, and other hospital employees a private place to rest and decompress during demanding shifts.
The idea began at Desert Springs Hospital and was carried forward when West Henderson Hospital was being developed. Loftus said Chief Nursing Officer Joyce Malaskovitz likely played a leading role in creating the original concept.
For Loftus, the Serenity Suite represents more than an employee benefit. It recognizes the long hours, 12-hour shifts, early mornings, nights, and personal sacrifices healthcare workers make to care for patients. He also explains that the families of healthcare professionals share in those sacrifices.
Before West Henderson Hospital opened, employees were invited to bring their families to tour the new hospital. The Serenity Suite became one of the most popular areas during the event.
