That text from a campaign might not be coming from a person. In this clip from my Fargo Talks conversation, Cliff Maloney, CEO of Citizens Alliance, draws a hard line on where he won't use AI, then explains where AI conversations with voters have worked for his team.
He also says the whole approach could disappear before the 2028 cycle.
In our full conversation, Cliff walks through how Citizens Alliance runs paid door-knocking programs in Pennsylvania, Arizona, New Hampshire and Nevada.
How does Citizens Alliance use AI to talk to voters?
Cliff Maloney says he is not putting a robot at the door, not using AI for phone calls, and not having AI write his mailers or emails to supporters, because donor interactions need to be genuine. Where his team has had success is AI conversations with voters via text. They program bots that respond to voters, tell them where their polling location is, talk about the issues they care about, and motivate them to vote for the team's candidates. He expects this to scale, but notes it could be outlawed and might not exist for the 2028 cycle. The views in this clip are Cliff's.
